Nutritional Guidelines

The forms included in this section are designed to help bariatric surgery patients achieve the maximum improvement in quality of life, nutrition and weight control. We have found that, when patients follow our few simple recommendations, they almost invariably enjoy a dramatic improvement in quality of life after surgery. We have also found that, although food and eating plays a more balanced role in their lives, our patients often feel more enjoyment with eating after surgery than they did before surgery. This is sometimes due to changes in food preferences, a generally healthier and more rewarding diet, lack of guilt when eating food or simply elimination of what we call "the diet and self-persecution mentality." The downloadable forms below are designed to help post-surgical patients achieve these results.

NUTRITION & EXERCISE TIPS
Some helpful tips on post-operative nutrition and exercise.

BASIC NUTRITION GUIDELINES
This form provides a simplified and easy-to-understand explanation of how your surgery should work. It also provides important guidelines to help maximize your nutrition and weight loss after surgery.

PHASE DIET PLAN
As your stomach heals after bariatric surgery, we recommend a slow return to regular foods.

PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS
Protein supplements are used differently around the time of surgery and, occasionally as long-term supplements by certain programs.

The N.E.W. Program at Community Hospital of Long Beach recommends Vitamin and Mineral Supplements from Bariatric Advantage. These supplements are specifically designed for patients after weight loss surgery.
